Categories

Categories within your store are comprised of two separate parts to build robust navigation: Categories and Attributes

If at any time the table of categories doesn’t show up on your screen, refresh by clicking the ‘Categories’ button beside ‘Edit Existing.’

Category list button

This button will refresh the screen showing you a table of all current categories regardless of status.

Creating a Product Category

To begin creating a product category select the ’Catalog’ button from the Control Panel Menu, while logged in as ‘host’ or ‘Admin’ and click the ‘Category’ button as shown below.

Create new category button

This will walk you through Category creation in three easy steps. The first step is to name and describe the category. Enter the name you would like to have shoppers see for the category, and a description for the category for those ambiguous titles.

Category settings

The status radio button is for advanced creation of categories for new product lines, or those no longer being produced. Setting to ‘Inactive’ will hide the category from shoppers until set to active, ‘Active’ will allow shoppers to view any products within this category; while ‘Archive’ will make the category disappear from the shoppers’ browsing view but allow shoppers to view products in their Order History that they may have purchased while the category was active.

Uploading Images for a Category

Category Image selection

The steps to upload images for your category are quite simple. Select your file using the ‘Browse…’ button next to the file upload text area. When you return from the dialog box, you will need to click the ‘Upload link’ to complete the process. Upon completion, the list of images will be refreshed to include the newly uploaded file.

To select which image you would like to use for the Category, simply select the radio button next to the desired image. Clicking Next at the bottom of the page saves the current setting and takes you to category hierarchy selection.

If no image is needed, uncheck the Show Image check box. Then click the ‘Next’ button under it to continue with the category settings.

Creating a Sub Category

To create a subcategory first you need a root level category to relate the sub-category to. If you have at least one root level category (meaning ‘New Top Level Category’ is selected for at least one category. All other categories will fall below the ‘Top Level Category’

Select the parent category or ‘New Top Level Category’ from the drop down list and click ‘Next’ to create your category tree. This menu will enable a filtering menu to shoppers on the main products page, as shown below;

Editing a Category

To edit a category, select ‘Catalog.’ from the Control Panel menu, while logged in as ‘Admin’ or ‘host.’ You will see a table on the screen similar to the one shown below. The category names can be clicked to display the current settings for the category.

Clicking the Category name walks you through the screens showing the current settings of the category, and allowing you to make the necessary changes with ease.
